Author: Sonia Taneja

Sonia Taneja is a Hindi lecturer at Stanford University. She teaches first, second and third year Hindi to undergraduates, graduates, heritage and non-native learners. She has taught as an Assistant Professor of Hindi at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC), part of the US Dept of Defense, where she received awards for achieving exceptionally high performance results. She has also taught as a Lecturer in Hindi at Columbia University. She is certified as an Oral Proficiency tester and has developed certification and proficiency exams for city, state and federal agencies.

In the Library पुस्तकालय में (Pustakalaya Mein)

Hello = नमस्ते (Namaste)

How may I help you? = मैं आपकी क्या सहायता करूँ (Main aapaki kya sahayata karoon?)

I am looking for a Hindi speaking course = मैं हिंदी सम्भाषण पाठ्यक्रम खोज रहा हूँ (Main Hindi sambhashan pathyakram khoj raha hoon)

Take this = यह लीजिये (yah lijiye)

What is this? = यह क्या है? (Yah kya hai?) 

This is a book = यह पुस्तक है (yah pustak hai)

No, I am not looking for a book = नहीं, मैं पुस्तक नहीं खोज रहा हूँ (Nahin, main pustak nahin khoj raha hoon)

What do you want then? = तब आपको क्या चाहिये? (Tub apko kya chahiye?)

Audio lessons, something like a CD = ध्वनि पाठ, जैसे सीडी (dhvani paath, jaise CD) 

Take this = इसे / यह लीजिये (Ise / yah lijiye)

Is this good? = (क्या) यह अच्छी है? [(Kya) Yah achchhi hai?] 

Very good, I learned Hindi from it = बहुत अच्छी, मैंने इसी से हिंदी सीखी (bahut achchhi, maine isee se Hindi seekhee)

Wow, Thanks =  वाह, धन्यवाद (vaah, dhanyavad)

Thank you =  आभार (Abhaar) 

Word-meaning = शब्दार्थ (shabdaarth)

Library = पुस्तकालय (Pustakalaya)
Book = पुस्तक (Pustak)
Thanks = आभार (Abhaar) / धन्यवाद (dhanyavad)
Course = पाठ्यक्रम (pathyakram)
Audio / Sound = ध्वनि (dhvani)
